Sounds like a store in San Fernando Valley.

I don't recall the name at the moment, I think it started with an A, 
Allied Surplus, maybe, someone may recall.

Huge place, pallets of stuff, shelves 15' high, thousands of square feet 
in the yard, tens of thousands of square foot of warehouse, I went in 
several times, was not even once able to find something for sale. 
Whatever it was, whomever I spoke to, "That's not for sale".  After a 
few months of finding nothing for sale at all, I gave up.
