I have one. Big, heavy. It has two dynamotors. The crystals are Bendix
MX-9 units which hold
both transmit and receive crystals. Bendix's name for the set is RTA-1.
The mounts are pretty scarce, but be aware that there different
varieties of mounts. My
mount was meant for the a DC-4 installation, and the radio will not fit
in the mount unless
the outer case is removed. I wonder if the DC-4 installation used the
structure of the airplane as
a case.
Control boxes are also hard to find. Although Bendix did make a control
box dedicated to
the radio, one of the instruction manuals says a control box should be
locally constructed
to accomodate the particular needs of the airplane involved. Not hard to
do, just switches
and pots.
I managed to get mine sort of playing some years ago, but it has been
languishing on
a bottom shelf for a long time now, just too many other projects.
If anyone wants it, they can have it, but did I mention its heavy?
Shipping not an
option.
At one time, I had a Bendix fetish, looking for anything 40s era Bendix
related.
But I outgrew it. Only Bendix now is a TA-12/RA-10 setup, as well as
the little
3801 set.
