DING DING! Jay and Mike win the points!
The SCR-183 -283 receiver was never supplied
with a coil set that covered any part of the
AM broadcast band.
A few months ago, I went to a "live" floor auction
and won a large box full of SCR-183 and GF-RU
coil sets. One of the RU "E" Range coils did
not have the six-pin OSC coil in the last position.
The last position had a four-pin coil, just like
the SCR-183 set. It plugged into the BC-229
receiver and covered 1300-2000KC just like
an "E" coil in an RU.
Turns out, whomever had these before me
took two "E" coils, removed RF coil #4 from
one of them, exchanged it with OSC coil #5
in the other set and now had a coil that
would allow AM BCB on the SCR-183.
I have other "E" coils so I'm going to keep
this one that way- I like it.
As an experiment, I tried this with two
"D" coils and it worked a treat. Did put
them back original.
More on the SCR-183 later.

P.S. I have a lot of extra receiver coils,
many tested. If someone is serious about
working with the historically important
but under-appreciated SCR-183/283 and
RU sets, I'm willing to help.
