I found the story so interesting that I gathered a couple other paper items for a possible article.
I have a Seabees book on Guam for some additional photos. And some magazine articles with photos.
I agree the video is well done. The scenes of the rescue of Tweed couldn't have been done better.
When they rescue him he really does look like he'd just come out of the jungle after years in hiding.
I think Hallicrafters could have used him in an ad for their "Radioman's Radio", as he had a Halli
before it rusted out or he had to ditch it.
I noted that if you look into the story, there's some revisionist current about the Tweed story. Like
he endangered the Chamorros and so on, if you want to look into that. I think this is partially valid
and partially just the trend of the times, criticize and deprecate everything, if you can. After the
"surrender period", there was no surrender offered, it meant decapitation. As for Tweed asking
about a woman, no woman was sent up to him, but hell, he was young and his judgment was not
the most mature. If it was wrong for him to hide out and endanger others, you could say the same
about the whole resistance in France. He did inform the Navy about what he'd learn of Japanese
positions on Guam, it's not like he had not paid attention.

>I read the book online about George Tweed. I looked him up afterward and it looks like he was a ham.
He had a W6 call. There were passages in his book that sure convinced me that he was a ham.
This Navy video is pretty neat. Quite the morale booster.
