[Milsurplus] Radium question

Hue,

In my experience, the radium paint oxidizes to an orange color, and is 
long-since finished glowing in the dark.  However, it can still be quite 
hot. Looks like this

(Sure wish I could just post the picture.)

Kinda frightens me, as I'm concerned about ingesting or breathing in 
paint chips.  If it were mine, I'd consider applying some clear lacquer 
to stabilize the stuff.  Just being near it is probably not dangerous.
