I never thought that the 611 was a bad performer as it is. Actually I was pretty impressed. 73 – Mike

The same will be true for the AF power output if they just subbed everything with FETs !

The radio was a rather "weak" performer with the original parts,so it seems like one is going from bad to worse with such a mod.

Some of you have seen that article on solidstating the BC-611. As I recall, it was pretty much

JFETs all the way thru. I wondered about that approach, which seems to me a little unsophisticated.

Like, with 12 volts, that's 1/10 the usual transmitter operating voltage, and I don't recall the JFET

circuit taps down on plate coil, so the new transmitter power is going to be even more miniscule.

Maybe the point was just to demonstrate that it can be done, forget actual range. 

I recently looked at 3 of BC-611 I have in storage, that's what got me thinking about these again.
