[Milsurplus] R-388B/URR receiver

Hi Nick,

For what it’s worth, I have been an R-388 connoisseur for about 50 years now. Although I have heard of the listing of an R-388A, I have never actually seen an ID tag with “R-388A” on it, but have seen R-388s with mechanical filters. So I do suspect an R-388A is simply an R-388 with the upgrade kit installed, but they never created (to my knowledge) R-388A tags.

Never heard of or saw an R-388B, though.

Dennis

The 51J-4 version would be the R-388A. The "B" model has a different stock number but I have never found anything at all about it - just a listing in "Bureau of Ships Controlled Electronics Equipment (F Cognizance)", NAVSHIPS 92563(B).

R-388A/URR is FSN 5820-557-5140 (formerly 5820-557-5139) - listed in 1956

R-388B/URR is FSN 5820-897-8314 - listed in 1961

Nick,

I think it’s the R-388 with the upgrade kit (mechanical filters+switch) to the equivalent of the 51J-4.

Has anyone ever heard of an R-388B/URR? - It has a separate Federal Stock Number and 1961 price of $1240
