[Milsurplus] Shipboard machine shop

The Army Ground Forces Association, a living history group, is renovating Battery Gunnison/New Peck at Sandy Hook. Part of the renovation is machining the parts for the gun apparatus and the plotting tools. They have an on-site machine shop with tools dating back to Second World War. Some of the tools were used in the defense plants during the war. I asked the machinist running the shop how were the tools acquired. Apparently, after the war, the machine tools were donated to high schools in New Jersey for use in shop class. Those schools eventually closed the shop class and the machines were surplus.

Time moves on. The future is in software...

The tours are cancelled during the pandemic but I would recommend checking out the restoration when it reopens:
