[Milsurplus] German spy radio operation in USA

While I'm at the keyboard, and idling a few minutes until the 'Rumble in the Jungle', let me pose a question
I have wondered about for quite a long time:
The German agents in the USA ( and Quebec, Canada ) who did NOT have access to the FBI supplied radio
gear in the "House at X Street" ( I forget the name ),
How did they reach Germany with their radios of something like 20 - 30 watts input power, and less than
optimum, makeshift antennas? Was the signal forwarded from Mexico, Brazil, Caribbean, or by U-Boat
station? I wonder if we will ever know.
"Agent 13" I learn actually attended meetings with U.S. U-Boat history buffs in Chicago, but it seems no
one was there qualified to ask such questions, and now that book is closed.
