Cleaning out some old emails.
But reading this, I'm thinking, the TCS was primarily an AM voice mode radio.
So it makes more sense to consider it up-rated, overlimited on CW mode, than downrated on AM.

BTW, there was a German VHF voice transmitter, 10WSc, with an "overlimit" button, to boost the RF power,
for "antenna alignment and emergency situations". Kind of like the "Emergency War Power" setting for
fighter aircraft engines.

Subject: [Milsurplus] AM output power down limited, TCS-12.

Some Navy transmitters like the TCM-2 with (2) 803 finals will run a few hundred watts CW or RTTY. However in am it was grid modulated and rated at 30 watts. That's normal for grid or cathode modulation. Remember too 100 watts am is 400 watts PEP. So rigs primarily designed for CW where am is an afterthought have to be derated in voice. A fine example of a rig that's designed well for high level am and CW was the Collins ART-13. Seth KC2WE
