I read that on WW2 era carriers, running water was shut off overnight starting at something like 22:00.
This was kind of inconvenient for people who had to staff the night shift, like night CAP flyers. Also
as the mess was closed, their meals were sandwiches prepared earlier. I also read that on Japanese
carriers, there was no internal heat or cooling.
Somewhere down there on my to-do list is to find some book with more information on what it was
really like to serve on a carrier back then.
