I must have seen 'Destination Gobi' in a theater way back when, altho I sure can't even recall in what city that would have been.
More recently, like in the last 10 years, I bought the DVD from some movie collector type.
So it's been a year or some since I have seen it. But I seem to recall being able to make out the radio equipment, altho as I
recall there are no full frontal photos of the TBW or RBM. But the gear is in fact realistic for a good sized weather station.
One reason I wanted to look up the movie after decades was I seemed to recall where they had to break camp and return to
base as they were out of a particular spare tube for the transmitter. I thought the man actually named the tube he lacked, but
that may have been my imagination. Can you remind me of this scene?
Also I wonder now what U.S. type plane filled in as the "Japanese bomber" that bombs their station? I vaguely recall it as PBY -
looking.
Also someone please remind me of the name of the station. My strong impression is that the script is strongly informed by
someone who was actually there or very close to information about the China weather stations. I attempted to find some book
that was the source for the movie script but was unsuccessful.
