Hi Charlie,
Your comment brings up something that was right in front of me but never registered. I own four BC-348s. Two are nice unmolested units with dynamotors. One has no power supply and is the most pristine but some "hamster" went crazy on it with wire cutters and made into a parts unit. My forth one has an AC supply, s meter and is painted battleship gray. On the two complete with D/Ms, one has the tag riveted to the panel. The other that is missing the tag has four machine screws with black paint matching the panel. My parts unit is missing it's tag and also has black machine screws in threaded holes. I'm wondering if some were riveted and some used machine screws during production? On close examination the ones with the machine screws are pristine where the tags were removed. The screws are the same color and look "old".
What do you experts think?

I had this same problem on a pristine, unmolested by anyone, dynamotor PS intact, BC348 I picked up for a B17F restoration project. Pristine except for the missing ID plate. I had a junker of the same series and used it, but. be prepared for a job that is tougher than it seems. The rivets are hard to drill out, start with a small drill bit and work up to keep it from not taking off and screwing up the tag. If you are a purist and want to rivet it back on, well, you won't be a purist when you realize you have to remove the front panel to do that. I cheated and used machine screws, smoothed their heads to look like a rivet using a belt sander, and installed it with lock washers and nuts.
