[Milsurplus] Heath HO 13

For those who use this old workhorse on the IF output of a milsurp receiver, does anybody have an assembly manual for the HO13 panadaptor?  The online manuals do not contain the build instructions.  I need to 'see' how the L2 circuit is wired, I know how it is by schematic, but  think the previous builder may have L2 backwards with the normal hot end of the coil swapped placing the tap and normal ground end on the hot end, and  he jockeyed it to make it work.  This one is a bit of a mystery as it was working fine on 455Kc, but I want it on 1681, easy with this model since L2 is the same for both freqs, just a few resistor changes.  When I wire it as shown in the schematic, Bandwidth acts like a band centering control, and the band centering, 'Pip Center' has very little effect.  So, also have issues with the accuracy of the chart on the schematic that shows wiring for the various IF freqs and the different resistor values they spec.  Gone over my work till I am bugged eyed and can't see where I might have made a mistake.  As found, the varicap diode cathode went right to the hot end of the coil instead of ground, the .001 coupling cap that should have been making that connection, was a .005 going to ground.  Could find no 'errata' sheets or factory notes about it.
