I believe you are correct in that it is a BC-9A. The only other similar radio is the BC-148, but the front panel is different. It is possible the antenna went in at an angle to increase its size. 73 – Mike

What's this?  Thought is might be a BC-9A, but the angles of the loop sections projecting from the back of the set do not seem right for a BC-9.  Mike, W6MAB
