I will second Al at this. When the Super Pro appeared shortly after the HRO, it completely outclassed the HRO.
The HRO lived on because it was affordable. Much easier to build and to maintain. And you could buy coils for
just the working frequencies you needed. This is no comment on such subjective features as "appearance."

I read an account by a woman who worked at British radio intercept stations. They really liked the HRO because
its bandspread even with general - coverage coils was so much better than a crummy Brit receiver they were
also supplied. So it's all kinda relative.
