Probably hanging out in with all the S-35 Panoramic Receivers in the dark
recesses of that Raiders of the Lost Ark warehouse.
IIRC, the straight military version of the SX-28 was the GRR-2. There was
also a version sold to the FCC with their ID applied to the front with only
one of the dual 6V6 audio output tubes installed as a cost saving measure.
Empty hole in the chassis for the other. Apparently HiFi audio was deemed
unneeded for surveillance work.
One would almost expect this model to reflect the same design if the focus
was on headphone use? Single ended audio would still easily drive a speaker
if needed.
For those who with an interest, there's a publication available entitled
The History of the Radio Intelligence Division Before and During World War
II 1940-1945 by George Sterling, former FCC commissioner and part of RID
during that time. Walt Maxwell/W2DU SK was also part of this and posted
some of his recollections on AMfone.net that are worth the read as well.

Walt mentioned his use of the SX-28 numerous times and was working on
restoring one at the time of his passing. I suspect he may have had some
knowledge of this model. I know one other fellow still with us at 89 who
was involved with monitoring and intercept/intel work later in the war who
might know more. I'll ask him. He remembers the Super Pros well.
