I looked for the manual, but it's not in my residence, so it's been moved to storage, and this will have to wait until summer.
When I owned the set, I looked into tube substitutes, such as 807, but I don't recall at all my conclusions.

When this set was discussed here a few years back, a caution was mentioned. There was some kind of potential problem ( no pun ) at the power connector
under something like ? high modulation and ? maybe incomplete loading. The problem was arcing at the power connector. Did this caution come post - manual
- publication and appear in that Navy volume on equipment maintenance and typical problems ? The same manual that has items like the TBX frequency range
increase ? Robert will know the name of that book.

The 807 and the 1269 share the same base and pin out.
The modulation system is somewhat strange being the plates of the modulator are connected to the RF decoupling choke at the input of the PA, the original power supply had a modulation reactor in series with the high voltage output to prevent the output of the modulator being dissipated across the HV filter capacitor. So will have to use an external modulation reactor in order to get any AM at all. Too bad they did not separate the modulator HV and the PA HV being that way you can use an external transformer. The current design puts a hell of a stress on the insulation of the cable between the radio and the power supply.
