Subject: Beach Patrol article in Newport News-Times

Finn, I have read a couple of your stories in the Newport News-Times and I am so glad they are carrying these. So very interesting !

I also want to comment on the beach patrols article. Bert Webber in one of his books on the Pacific coast WWII says the beach patrols
declined to use the Army's "35 lb. radio", in favor of the Forest Service, "Type S Radiophone". I agree with him; this is logical and matches
the photo evidence better. I have both the Army radio alluded to, SCR-194, and the Type S. In the photo of the horseback mounted beach
patrol, the whip antenna does not resemble the SCR-194 Army radio's antenna, which in mobile use would have been pushed down to
one telescopic section about 12 inches tall, and is wider ( fatter ) than the whip antenna in the photo. One of Webber's books has a photo
of the Type S.

Again, great articles and I look forward to reading more.
