[Milsurplus] Stragglers Using Spark

Well, Bruce, that's something for me to think about. Both writing B&K and the spark transmitter.
You see, there was a recent AWA Journal article, with cover photo, on a German WWI Army spark
transmitter. I have owned the same model transmitter since about 1980. It's pretty useless, as you
know, and I cannot keep things around that I don't get any use from. I have a letter from the
manufacturer and also a German book that identifies it. My thinking is to #1 trace out the circuit
and neatly redraw it, since it's not available anywhere. #2 Translate the letter and quote a part of
the book. #3 Write an article with the above material, for the AWA Journal. #4 Sell the set via a
listing in Ebay.de, because I prefer it go back to Germany. Because of its rarity, I feel this is
appropriate.
I tried it out with a lamp antenna load years ago, back then, using a 24 VDC brute-force,
can't-bust-em power supply. I think it's around the 100 watts input level. It's quite a display.
I will think about maybe doing one last display here, maybe at the group meeting, before it
returns to the Vaterland.
The set I have was missing the top cover – lid, and also a cover for the interrupter. A well-known
California collector, whose name escapes me at the moment, sent me a spare cover for the
interrupter. Now who has spares for a WWI spark transmitter ???
There were some labels on the set I didn't understand. After reading the book I referred to,
I learned that the transmitter has a built-in diode detector, so could be used two-way, altho I read
that it was usually paired with a more sensitive receiver.
