[Milsurplus] R-388 Dial Drum

Guys, I just picked up a very beat-up R-388 at the Sussex (N.J.) hamfest today, and I have a question.
On the R-388s, turning the bandswitch counter-clockwise tunes to the next highest band, and turning it clockwise tunes to the next lowest band. On mine, that works properly, but the dial drum does the opposite (e.g, turning the bandswitch counter-clockwise indicates the next lowest band instead of the next highest).
Am I correct in assuming that a prior owner probably restrung the tuning-drum dial cord incorrectly?
The radio has reception but very poor, so I'll be diving in to see what the problems are. This one has seen some hard use, so it will be a project, and I will undoubtedly be seeking your help again. As always, thank you.
