Three each BX-40 were part of ME-34 (running spares for SCR-609/610). It
could hold 120 FT-243 or 40 FT-241. Also used with SCR-608 and 628 to hold
the FT-241's that wouldn't fit in the pull-out crystal tray in the
BC-684-(*). Not used with SCR-508/528 which had internal storage for a full
set of Low Number crystals and technically was the only Tank Set (TD's being
considered artillery, not tanks).

Was looking at a BX-40 to decide whether to keep or give to a friend with
the FM tank set. I see Radionerds says this also can hold FT-243 rocks for
the SCR-284.

Hmmm...the SCR-284 does not use crystals, it is only VFO, right? SCR-583
does have crystal/ VFO choice but I don't recall seeing this box in its
manual either.
