When I was in they wanted our uniforms clean... HI HI
Here are some of the laundry detergents recommended to my currently serving US Army 1st Lieutenant.
Bio-O-Kleen, Country Save, Charlie's Soap, Molly's Suds, and Seventh Generation Free & Clear
Below from directions for washing military ACU/OCPs, (the camo uniforms).
Do not use any detergents that have any "optical brighteners".
Many detergents contain optical brighteners that can cause working or combat uniforms to be more visible at night.
That's the last thing you want in a battle zone, or in training.
Night vision gear can pick up the optical brighteners very easily.
Don't choose the products that advertise a bleach alternative or color-safe bleach in the formula because these ingredients whiten and brighten.
For his beret and other hats, he just soaks them in a small wash tub with a little bit of "Dawn" dish soap.
