No, these were not the $7 each item. So I suppose I need to bite the bullet and pay the $7 each for the real thing. Or use your idea with pins from DB-25 plug.
The R-392 doesn’t have a product detector, so this is to be expected. Were you, or did you build in a product detector? That will make all the difference in the world.

Are those the $7 ones? I'd send them back , lest you damage the tube sockets.
The D25 or any of the D series pin fit perfectly. I use a thin needle nose to insert them.
The PC board for the cascode has three of the pins soldered to the board and two with short offset wires to align with the pins . Of coarse, the pin #'s are counted CCW from the top an I have to careful to get them in the right holes, it takes about 15 seconds to accomplish.
The cascode board is thin and tall, so I installed the gain adjustment pot on the top for easy access.
Most of the others are only three pins, except the Audio output board which is built into an old octal socket.
I noticed that the native BFO amplitude needs to be beefed up to better handle loud SSB signals. I get distortion unless I turn down the RF gain.
Do have the same issue?
