Subject: [PVRC] 160th Aniversary of the Sept 1, 1859 Carrington Event

The Carrington Event was the strongest geomagnetic storm known to

have hit the Earth since at least the 14th century. Based on examinations

of ice samples, scientists believe that geomagnetic storms two and three

times stronger have occurred prior to the 14th century. Here's the first hand

report of the affects on telegraph operations, as reported on

September 5th, 1859 in the New York Times.

What will happen to our technology intense civilization the next time

this happens?
