I found the SCR-131, 161 manual.
It explains the tapped xmtr inductor as there because the loop cannot be tapped. Design was carried over to the BC-156, just replaced loop.
Also sez loop is not balanced, so loop is slightly unidirectional in response. 
Receiver bridge input is to 1- prevent receiver reradiation 2- minimize loop antenna interaction with the receiver tuning. Thorough receiver 
shielding takes care of the netting challenge, with the #10 tube running.
