Thanks for your comments, astute as usual.
The fixed antenna tap would be because, IIR, the antenna is a prescribed length.  Plus I think the actual freq range is rather small.
I am today categorizing manuals and boxing them, so it may be that I come across the SCR-131 manual. If so, I'll post the receiver description.
