Ohhhh, but we still have to tune the darned resistor.  Maybe just a multiposition switch & fixed values is simplest after all.  I'm hoping to put an el cheapo little meter on the output with a sensitivity pot to keep from pinning it maybe.

I think not hard to find such a cap at a hamfest or out of some old VHF equipment. Then measure the capacity and make a dual – labeled dial, with capacitance and approx freq range of crystal.
Now we need also to add a 10-LED bar graph to the output, to indicate relative output. -Hue    >oooohhhh.... I LIKE that idea and I'm jealous that I didn't think of it first.  :-)

Thanks for mentioning that!     Wayne WB4OGM -----Original Message-----

Subject: Re: [Milsurplus] Crystal tester Thanks, Wayne.
It occurred to me that in this circuit, the 2 capacitors could maybe even be replaced by a 2-gang variable of low capacitance. -Hue   >I remember encountering that CMOS design but if I recall correctly the text that was with it indicated C1 & C2 & Rs had to be selected for the xtal range to be used. https://www.electronics-tutorials.ws/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/oscillator-osc32a.gif   I haven't given that one a breadboard try yet.
