[Milsurplus] AM output power down limited, TCS-12.

"Maybe something like the U.S. Navy's TCH, but with the AM transmit power not down-limited from CW." That statement was made by a member in the last digest mailing. I have a TCS-12 and the AM power is also down-limited from CW power. Does anyone know why it was designed this way? And is it possible to bring AM power up to CW power ratings on a TCS-12? Thanks for any info.

Hue,
Yes, the AT5/AR8 were an entirely different radio pair.
Made by Amalgamated Wireless (AWA)
Not only used by the RAAF but ISTR the Army as well.
The home grown product - dare I say it - was a better
set than the WS19 (Aust) or the T1154/55
4 units: The AR8 Rx, AT5 Tx, the ATU and a power supply
Like the 1154/55 it had a low MF 140 -500 Khz and HF 2 - 20Mhz
I used to own one - long gone now - pity!
Dean

I have an AT5 / AR8 pair on the air. Wonderful set. Easy to work on. But finding covers for the transmitter, that's hard, LOL.

Well, this pair definitely has the right military gizmo 'look'.
BTW, re Oz gear, a 3BZ coastwatcher set recently sold in the East USA. It was Dennis Starks' set, $1800, no shipping. The buyer is from California and is flying back to
collect it.
My comment, this is certainly a historically meaningful radio but always seemed to me like a whole lot of heavy metal to be schlepping thru the jungle. I would ask
'em back then, "Really, there's nothing else you could use?" Maybe something like the U.S. Navy's TCH, but with the AM transmit power not down-limited from CW ?

Tomorrow the 27th will be the annual "Delaware Goes to War" event at Fort Miles, Cape Henlopen Delaware. They have a section of one time Ft. Miles open to the public that includes the restored FDC center and 12 inch guns all located in Batter 519 along with several barracks, the observation tower and the other weapons located on site like there 16 inch gun. This Saturday there will be a group of reenactors giving demonstrations and tours and the like along with a military vehicle show. The event mainly features a WW2 theme but in the last couple years they have also included new displays from Korea and Vietnam on the periphery of the event. The last two years I have brought out my M151A1 and operated just outside the main gate to Fort Miles. I have regularly done the MRCA net on 5.357 at noon local time and this year I will also try the MMRCG net on 7.296 at ten in the morning. Will also monitor 51.0 FM.
Think K4CHE will be on site just outside barrack 601 and will be running WW2 period equipment on 80 meters all day.
I will be monitoring the net frequencies before the nets if anyone want to try to make a connection and am looking forward to the show.
