FYI, I had some little bastard try to blackmail me last week for $4K in bitcoin via a bunch if emails which my double Spam filter caught. I kicked his ass into outer space.
If you are getting pop-ups with that extortion garbage, then you DO have an infection.
But what the hell do I know? Ive only been doing this since 1970.

Are you using Linux, and thus impervious to this particular malware ?
These "lock screen extortions" are all over the web, mostly residing on abandoned websites.

Which is what usually happens when a site is no longer active: i.e. when it is a "dead link".
