A couple years back, we briefly discussed here, I think, a Panther vs. Pershing tank encounter in Koeln, Germany, which whole confrontation
was dramatically filmed by an Army Signal Corps cameraman. Quite by accident I came across this, this morning. More to the story.
Clarence Smoyers, the very skilled gunner on the Pershing, feels troubled by the feeling that his firing might have been responsible for the
death of a German civilian woman. He travels to Germany to visit her grave and meet her relatives. A short video, one I found very moving.
I understand he may feel some pain about this part of the incident. But you don't drive a car anywhere around a city where combat is likely
to start anytime soon; that is bound to mean trouble.
I was very surprised to learn that the bow gunner of the Panther Smoyer destroyed survived, and that on his trip ( his 'last travel' ) the two
even met.

There are a number of YouTube videos also displaying the original tank duel.
Also mentions a forthcoming book about Smoyer's WWII career, "Spearhead".
