If you go to the American Radio History site, they have all the electronics magazines from the '40s and '50s. Check out the ad prices on surplus equipment and then run those prices through an inflation calculator.
The stuff wasn't cheap, but it was significantly less expensive than the new stuff from Hallicrafters, Hammarlund and National. That was the draw.

key point - Fair is still here and every other surplus outfit I can think of from the
