Bill,

This is the accessory directional wattmeter included with the “SORAK” portable HF wire antenna kit.  The 1980s-vintage SORAK could be set up in a variety of antenna configurations, e.g., dipoles, sloping vees, etc., and the wattmeter was used for antenna setup, “tune for max” adjustments of manpack radios, and measuring reflected power for radios which had limited impedance matching range (e.g., AN/PRC-74).  It’s not a particularly accurate meter, but didn’t need to be in its intended application.

The compact, easily transportable SORAK was a neat idea but was taken out of service after only a short time due to severe reliability problems with its rather flimsy lightweight plastic support masts.  Many turned up as surplus in NOS condition, and used ones typically have broken masts.
