As I thought: you will have to remove the ground from the filament transformer winding 
center-tap at the power supply. UN-ground the filament winding center-tap at the power 
supply.

No. Pin 1 is the ground end of your B-. Pin 9 is actually the shield of the armored power 
cable, and is grounded at the power supply end, but you don't need that one as long as you 
have the power supply ground connected to pin 1.

However, when you do that, since your filament winding center-tap at the power supply is 
grounded, your filament voltage will drop at the receiver. In addition, something is shorted 
somewhere and "that ain't good".

UN-ground the filament winding's center-tap at the power supply and all will be well.
