Thanks for putting this up.

I am just doing this now I've already taken the Dremel to the opening of the mic body I took off about .015" around the opening no need to remove the element ring. wrapped one layer of electrical tape around the carbon element. fits snug no rattle on the backside of the element.

I did not go with soldering the element. I purchased some 1/8" flat brass at a model hobby shop and formed it around a wooden dowel slightly smaller than the contact ring it just clips on there tension holds it ,I got a cap from a 2 liter coke bottle "the soft pliable type" and with the Dremel took a few swipes at the inner thread of the cap ,just increased it a tad and slid the cap over the rear contact and it holds it in place very tightly the brass comes up through two little slits in the back of the cap where i drilled two holes through for soldering the wires from the switch,I also drilled two more holes for the .008 capacitor mine was a 1944 with the .008 cap.

The front cover i chucked up in my Lathe and i took off just enough from the back side so the Large hole cap just touches the element so again I have no rattle of the element. The wire i'm going to use is "S" video Cable "Monster"which is Shielded with two Conductors and has a feel and diameter almost identical to the original wire.Question though If i use the shield of the wire as the other side of the mic element ie:the "s" of the TRS "tip,Ring,Shield" do any of you guys think I could Get Bit through the metal body of the T-17?73'Jim KIB1PFL
