[Milsurplus] grey TBY ? Why ?

The grey TBY : is this a postwar rebuild? If so, in doing the repaint, as this is an early version with
painted-on 'nameplate', not a separate metal nameplate, how would this painted-on "plate" have
been done? I think there would have been no reason for any TBY to have come from the factory
in grey finish.
I had a couple Navy BC-1000s a few years back, but they retained the original OD finish. They did
have a supplementary plate identifying them as Navy property, and they also had the B+ off/on
switch mentioned in the Navy's maintenance manual.
