The 8D-3 is stored elsewhere and I don't have any photos handy. Maybe later this year. I have encountered 5 of them
so far. I gave one away years ago; I supplied a manual copy to a request, also years back, and I still have 3. They are in format
like a small cereal box standing up. There is a receive tune control, volume, and send/receive. With a free running osc in the
112 MHz region you would not expect much compatibility with later equipment. Also I don't fully understand the use or why
this particular working freq band was chosen. The osc stability would seem to rule out it being used to communicate with
aircraft VHF. There is a single cloth handle on top for carrying it.
Possibly using one of the 'programmable oscillator chips' to drive the osc stage would be a practical and non-harmful way to
allow it to interoperate with 2M AM equipment.
