[Milsurplus] MAB questions

I realized that up north I have an MAB predecessor, something like 'MQ' I think. It occurred to me that if this is a rarer model,
maybe I should use one of the MAB bags and try to restore this older model. Of course that little point is of no interest except
to the small group of us true blue fans.
Some things I wonder about the MAB ( and/or DAV ) :
1- how good is the AVC in these things? As there's no volume control, does it ever blast your ears? I think I was told that you
can collapse down the antenna to lower signal input, but - that has to sharply limit the transmit ERP too, right ?
2- has anyone tried it with a 'drag counterpoise' wire ? I suppose that would require tuning up the antenna coil with the wire
connected, and the set always then operated that way ?
3- what about that 'cloth cap headset' ? If you don't want to soil it, if you want to keep the cloth in pristine condition, but there
really isn't any workaround headset or headphone element holder, right, especially as the connector is so unique ? The headphone
elements are quite thin. I did try a Western Electric wire headphone holder, into the small recessed screw hole on the side of the
MAB headphone elements, but - the plastic headphone element is so thin, that I did not adopt this holder, as I feared the plastic
would chip away under stress. Just occurred to me something like a shooter's protective headset or some kind of audio headphone,
emptied out, might hold the MAB elements. ( Or, I could simplify my life and just cut short this project. But I would still wonder....)
thanks- Hue
