[Milsurplus] Way OT -- Rice Boxes

Hi Miles,

Ken has already repied. He may be a little too enthusiastic about some
of the later solid state gear with microprocessors and other
razzle-dazzle. Even that stuff can be dealt with but some of the
original parts are proprietary and unobtanium. I have an old Atlas 180.
It is all solid state but is American made and has no parts that are are
not readily available (or makable). I do have Kenwood Twins R-599 and
T-599 here. The transmitter has hollow state finals and driver.
Everything else is solid state. It is ancient. It has required repairs
and some replcaemnet parts several times. Both rigs have been easy repairs.

Yeah...what about those mics and the power cables? Enquiring minds want
to know. I use mics snatched from old CB radios. It was considered as a
promotion to elevated status for the mics <evil grin>. I did get the
cables for both of those.

I have a solid state fancy-schmancy receiver that has puked in the
microprocessor department. I an preparing to install an arduino and
updated DDS in place of the brain-dead bits. There is always a way:)

There is also some all hollow-state gear and a bad attitude here. I feel
that if I cannot repair/maintain my own gear it needs to be in the
landfill and NOT in my shack.

73,

Bill KU8H
