Ken & the group, progress update:  after lots of cleaning, resistance &
voltage & other functional checks, and rewiring the power input (someone
had installed a female connector into the chassis, which presented a
safety risk), I powered it up. No smoking, no arcing; let it run on
filaments for a few hours while keeping a close eye on things.
Eventually tuned it up and all was well; everything within spec.

The real challenge turned out to be the BC-614 -- it had numerous faulty
caps & resistors well out of value.  Complicating things a bit was that
it didn't quite match the schematic, but the discrepancies didn't appear
to be recent; they were sufficiently covered in MFP to make me believe
it was built that way or they were repair depot modifications.

At any rate, I have a few more suspect caps to replace (there's some hum
on the audio) along with finding the correct knobs and a few other bits
& pieces, but otherwise it's back on the air and ready for further
cosmetic restoration.
