Short answer is maybe.
I guess you have forgotten that the R-390A carrier level meter is 1 mA full scale. So if your meter reads about 20 ohms coil resistance then you are good to go. If not, then the meter is still usable but you have to do some surgery in the IF assembly. Contact me off list or do a Google search. I believe the mod came from one of our brothers down under many years ago. Might be in the Y2K manual; don't remember since I've slept since then. I did this mod to my R-390s, so I know it works. I used the meters from the SRR-13 / FRR-23 receivers. VU meters are standardized so will work with no mods.
On another note; what was the result of testing the heater current of you mystery microwave tube module?Jim
