An LM is a very cool piece of equipment. There are a lot of things you could do with
one “back in the day”. Fast forward to an era of dirt cheap solid state test gear (military
or otherwise) and they are not as unique. What was terrific accuracy for it’s era is no
longer “best of the best” On top of that, the painstaking point by point calibration of every
single uint (to take out the non-linearity of the tuning system) likely no longer holds.
Unless you want to sit down and run a few thousand check points, there is no easy way
to replace that cal. The original calibrators were amazing machines in their day. When
sold as surplus (even back then) they were in the “way to big to take home” category.
Yes indeed, I still think about passing on buying one of them ….. maybe if I'd given up
the dining room and ate on the floor in the hall instead….
