“Doing the value of dollars, $75 in 1975 is the equivalent of $356.25 today,
so, it seems that $600 or so for a nice R648/ARR41 is quite reasonable...”
Can’t argue with the math, but logic doesn’t rule mil surplus radio pricing in my brain. Since I saw NIB Command Set xmtrs for $10-$20 in 1972 (Standard Surplus SF), they should only be a little bit more today. Maybe it’s a way of denying that I’ve aged so much.
One radio I did jump on without hesitation in 1972 were the early R 392s offered by Fair Radio. As I recall they were under $200. I bought several. All worked. All had very good dial accuracy. All were very clean inside and out. Power plugs with cut cords were about $20. I still have one. Never needed any repairs. Really like the R 392.
