Robert, you are correct about Avco cases having the sharper corners. I know this firsthand because back when Fair Radio was selling GRC-9s for $50
( imagine that ), I bought one and paid them an extra $5 for one with "squared off corners" as special selection.
Unfortunately I think this is the one I found in my storage with no grills.
So I am looking to buy receiver and transmitter grills for the GRC-9.
Whether the Hoffman with the squared corners has an Avco rebuild cabinet, I don't recall; I think I would have noticed this when I looked at it, but
I'll take another look. Maybe I'll even shoot a photo of the antenna inductor knob and lock and the dial window.
Among about 12 GRC-9s I have owned, this is the only Hoffman I have seen.

Sounds like you may have come across one of the Depot replacement cases and CW-109 Covers. These were made I think in either the late 1050's or early 1960's. The radios installed in them will retain their original nameplates. These cases (and they may have been made by Hoffman but I was thinking it was Avco) do have sharper corners and unlike the originals are smooth on the outside instead of having reinforcing channels stamped into them like all of the BC-1306's and the original RT-77 and RT-77A cases and covers did.
