[Milsurplus] art13 ballentine dynamotor

The dynamotors that were used with the ATC only had the Navy Type Number on
them, and on the schematics in the manual. Most of them later got marked
either DY-11.ART-13 or DY-12/ART-12. But some didn't.

On the bearings, all that you can try is to stand the dynamo on one end, put
a little oil over the center part of the bearing, and press it with your
thumb to try to get some of it in. Or you can take a piece of aluminum and
make a ring and a piston to fit, and use that to inject a little fresh oil
into it. Then wipe it off and do the other end.

As for suspect parts, I don't know of any that anyone has ever mentioned as
always being bad. You might check two or three that are readily accessible
and go from there. It may matter a little with the vintage of your
transmitter. There were some significant improvements in components over
the production life of the sets. The original ATC and TCZ (actually the
COL-52286) came out I think in early 1942. Then there was the 52286A. Some
of both of those got converted to T-47's and I think some new T-47's were
built in 1943 and 1944, And then the T-47A's were built in maybe 1944 and
1945.

folks
i am getting ready to put my art13 setup together with the dynamotor. this
one is not marked dy or dm rather just part no 502 D3COA. manufactured for
collins. the commutators look good. i would like to lube the bearings but
it is marked "note do not lubricate". when i took off the endplate and the
fiber seal the ball/rollers were not visible. is there anyway to get some
lube or even oil in there? even though its sealed could something from 70
years plus retain oil in the grease? it does spin ok just a little bit of
drag from the brushes

also as to the art13 are there any things i should replace beforehand like
caps ? i saw the info from mike hanz's site so i will grease and lube the
various parts of the autotune

thanks. jeff kg2bz
