I guess it all in the ear of the beholder. Try finding an open frequency to
work your friend at his off grid camp on 75 SSB in the evening, forget it!
I ended up asking to make a quick call and the group on freq were kind
enough to conduct a brief contact. Not to mention people routinely fire up
SSB in the AM window. I personally don't think the bands are that empty.
I'm also not listening to CW so that may be another story.
