Well, not totally. We know it IS a radio call. We know the operator was at KMZR in 1943. 

We do know that similar calls were assigned to ships. 

The Liberty Ship, SS Jeremiah Obrien's radio call is KXCH for instance.

Perhaps a walk through the FCC's searchable database might find something.
