First thing that comes into my mind is that you lost the crystal, and since there is no protective bias or clamp tube, the plate current will soar when there is no drive on the grid.
I suggest you check the crystal. If it is not an original, large crystal that can take the relatively high crystal current in the BC-669 oscillator circuit, chances are the crystal is deceased...
