Yes indeed.  Chester Nez was one of the original 29 Code Talkers.  His book is very good though a little light on detail.  I think you are referring to the movie Wind Talkers, which was a pretty dismal portrayal of Marine Corps combat during World War II, though I hear that the equipment used was fairly accurate.

One thing that enlightened me was that the talkers' "guards" were not there to shoot them if capture by Japanese seemed imminent; the guard was to protect them from other MARINES who might take them for an oriental and bad things happen. 
There was a review of the movie in some magazine like "Naval Review" which I read long ago, and its tone was rather negative and disappointed, mentioning a number of inaccuracies. I thought it was an okay movie, but when I see these combat scenes I always want to yell, "Spread out! spread out!"  Don't present a fine grouping for the enemy MG.  I think the movie also showed a Japanese base and the soldier is using a 94-5 radio, listening while the transmitter handcrank generator is being cranked. Oh well, it's only a movie, not a doc.

The way it's described in Chester Nez's book, one Code Talker would were this and pull security while the other would wear the headset and talk on the microphone which were connected by cables.  Does that seem right to you?
