I doubt there is any relationship between load and magnetostriction 
noise because the magnetic induction won't change with load as it's a 
constant voltage system.  Also, with butt and lap cores there is always 
some stray flux which will vigorously vibrate any nearby loose steel.  
This is a chronic problem in big transformer design because everything 
is trying to vibrate.
